mothgal bio
American-Australian Nashville based pop duo, Mothgal is comprised of vocalist Courtney Wray and producer/musician Alex Tomlins. Their first track ‘Better Now’ will be available June 11, 2021.
Both working Nashville musicians, the two met moments before performing together, where the Arizona native introduced herself by falsely claiming she was Australian (because she visited for 3 weeks when she was 12). This started their journey as musical collaborators and friends, having now performed over 400 gigs together in two years, and writing their first songs together during covid-19 quarantine.
As for the formation of a recording project… After Tomlins’ lent Wray a copy of The Mothman Prophecies and discussion of the Mothman statue in Point Pleasant, WV ensued, there was much debate over assumptions made about “Mothman”. Wray says, “How can we assume Mothman is in fact a man, what if it is a Mothgal… we don’t know.” And thus mothgal was born.
Wray’s first concert was to an empty room, but to her credit she was four-years-old, performing Mary Chapin Carpenter’s ‘Passionate Kisses’ to a pretend audience in her parents office. She now has over 10 years professional experience singing internationally, with her Mothgal tracks being her first original releases.
Tomlins’ musical background was inspired by hearing Pink Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb’ for the first time at the age of 11. He has been a professional guitarist for over 10 years, and has started focusing his efforts in production. Prior to moving to Nashville, Tomlins’ past original collaborative projects have performed nationally and internationally, including major festivals and achieved charting success on iTunes and radio charts.
Stay tuned for updates from Mothgal.

"Classical rock meets pop music in a swirling landscape of synths and arena drums as well as echoing guitars in the song Better Now. It is the American-Australian duo Mothgal who make their debut with this somewhat nostalgic but at the same time timeless soundscape."

"It [Better Now] is a more than enjoyable listen bolstered by some crisply delivered lead vocals that sit pop precision amidst the waves of dreamy synth atmospherics, tight backing vocals, imaginative yet introspective lyricism, a quick flowing/building arrangement, punchy drum machine backbone pulse and a clean mix/master! Audibly well crafted. Props are due!"
